Gloria Ry'ann interview on the beats rymes and basslines channel (soul singer) @BEATSRYMESBLOG

Picture

Gloria Ry’ann

“Music is the fabric of my soul.”

Not since Minnie Riperton has there been a more enchanting songstress with a glass-shattering high octave vocal-range. This show-stopping beauty Gloria Ry’ann is riding on the success of her current single releases “O.M.G.” and “Back With You”. Gloria is the treasured find for today’s music lovers. Entertaining crowds large and small across the country, Gloria has performed with the likes of pop princess Rihanna, Oscar-winner, Jennifer Hudson, legends Ashford & Simpson, Patti Labelle and the late Teddy Pendergrass.

Gloria has appeared on “The Today Show,” “106th & Park,” “The Mo’Nique Show,” The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and MTV European Music Awards as a supporting vocalist and as a soloist. “Music is the fabric of my soul,” Gloria says. A Chicago-south-side-native, Gloria grew up with a love of music that was fostered by her mother who encouraged her to sing and perform for family and friends.

Back then, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Teena Marie were among the vocal heroes of young Gloria who soon began lessons with the world-renowned composer Dr. Lena Mc Lin. Over time, Dr. Mc Lin helped Gloria nurture her skills as a artist that gave her the confidence to relocated to New York City and focus on her music career. “I knew moving to New York would be my push to pursue my dreams to make them my reality.”

Her determination is paying off. Emerging as a dynamic vocalist, with a four- octave range, Gloria Ry’ann has been featured throughout the country as a headlining music act. Her music has found a home on radio stations around the world. Listeners are flocking to her sound on Facebook, MySpace and YouTube as well as live performances that convey a style, which Gloria describes as “positive, vibrant, classy, sensual, and sometimes naughty.” “From middle voice to the whistle register, Gloria is in possession of a vocal tone that is simply beautiful,” says Carl Smith of GrownFolksMusic.com. “I, for one, have reserved a space in my musical radar screen for [her] and I think you should, too.”
well guess what we got Gloria come thru on the beats rymes and basslines channel

Reggae singer Ruth passing thru the beats rymes and basslines movement

With an intense passion for writing poetry combined with an undeniable talent to woo others with her voice, Jamaican singer and songwriter RUTH (born Ruth-Ann Brown) launched a career on the Reggae music scene in late 2005.
She was born to Frank Brown, a primary school teacher and farmer, and Janett Hemans, a high school teacher and dressmaker, on August 28, 1984 in the small community of Chesterfield, in Westmoreland.
Unlike many other artistes, RUTH did not grow up listening to Reggae music, neither were her parents involved in the music business in any way. Her father played the guitar, piano and harmonica leisurely and her mother sang and still sings in her church choir. One would wonder where she learned to write to Reggae rhythms when the only background she had in music was singing on the church choir. Brought up in a strict Seventh - day Adventist household, RUTH only heard ‘secular’ music as she passed by shops and bars in the vicinity of her home. This was the kind of music she gravitated towards.
She was always singing at home while doing chores, and she was known around the community for performing at church crusades, weddings, and funerals; at school, she was known as a poet, who preferred to write several poems each day than to eat lunch or play. Her friends encouraged her to take singing seriously but she did not take this advice until 2005 when she recorded her first single, ‘As It Is’ on the Di-Mon Cut label. This song, about a triangular affair, received tremendous airplay on various radio stations in Jamaica.
Her voice has been described as smoky, strong, soulful and melodic while her lyrics are compelling, straightforward, and unusual, ‘hitting the nail on the head’ and reaching out to a wide audience whose members can relate to the concepts she highlights. A sentimentalist, who finds meaning in every thing, RUTH enjoys writing about personal experiences relating to love, family life, social issues, injustices, among other timeless topics.
RUTH’s main musical influences include Sade, Sinead O’Connor, Tanya Stephens, Sizzla Kalonji, and the Marley family. Of course, she is yet to perform alongside these icons. Her music, however, has been featured on various Jamaican radio stations including IRIE FM, RJR, FAME FM, ROOTS FM and ZIP 103 and she has been interviewed on CTV and HYPE TV in Jamaica and WPFW in Washington DC. She has shared the stage with Freddie McGregor, Beres Hammond, Ky-Mani Marley, I-Wayne and many more.
After signing to independent label, Bran-Nu Entertainment in 2007, RUTH began working on her debut album, which features her first two singles on the label, ‘Unfamiliar Feelings’ and ‘Chillin with my Baby’ which were released on February 14, 2008. The not yet titled album which is a collection of personal experiences about relationships, issues related to migration, work, and life in general and features songs like ‘Jamdown’, an ode to her home country is soon to be released.

Nuwamba

Demetress ‘Nuwamba’ Cook isn’t your average neo-soul artist. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, the singer/songwriter is fully aware of what the industry’s expectations are- he’s just totally unaffected by them. Nuwamba has been following his own rules since the second grade when he started singing in his grade school’s glee club. Growing up in one of the largest cities in Texas, his personality is a mix of pragmatism, sensibility, and down home comfort. The latter especially, is reflected in his music. His vocal presence is weighty over instrumentals, weaving itself throughout soft lyrics about love and relationships. For Nuwamba to never have been classically trained, he succeeds in holding listeners captive with a single note.
In his younger days, Nuwamba took note of his parents’ love for music. At home, music had always been a major part of life, but it wasn’t until he decided to join the chorus at school, when he saw and felt a true personal connection to it. It was his participation in glee clubs and church choirs where Nuwamba gained the confidence to claim singing as his destiny. By his senior year of high school, he was writing songs as well, but it wouldn’t be until his meeting with Atlanta-based entrepreneur William Griggs when Nuwamba began realizing the necessary development in becoming the best artist he could be.
Nuwamba had begun traveling back and forth between Atlanta, Dallas and abroad, taking his career to the next level. It was at the top of the millennium that he’d started working closely with Griggs, who had been building his own connections within the industry as a special project manager for Warner Brothers Records. Griggs had been promoting an event series called Chocolate Soul that was immediately beloved by the bohemian set in Atlanta. Nuwamba took advantage of the opportunity to perform every chance he could. Once the buzz for Chocolate Soul grew, Griggs started producing compilation albums by the same name, showcasing the artists who were crowd favorites (Raheem Devaghn, Eric Roberson, Cee Lo, Kindred the Family Soul) at the weekly festival. Nuwamba was featured on the Chocolate Soul’s Deluxe CD compilation. His "Take Me Away" is an ethereal ode to taking a moment away from the hustle and bustle of this fast-paced world and finding peace. His song "Forever" was a part of the This Is Soul 2006 compilation released by SoulBrother Records in London. Nuwamba’s music was also on the Soul Lounge compilation released by Lightyear/Warner. His work appeared alongside talented major artists such as Common, Mint Condition, Omar, and Conya Doss on the Luire Presents RELAxY Pocket compilation (Japanese release).
By then, Nuwamba had become Griggs’ primary artist on his fledging Chocolate Soul imprint, and while he worked on the label compilations, he was constructing his own debut album Above the Water (2006). Above the Water was a joint venture release between Griggs’ Chocolate Soul as well as Nuwamba’s imprint, BornSoulful Entertainment. Nuwamba’s talents were well-received by the public after the album’s official release. His singles enjoyed radio play on Dallas’s 89.3 FM (WSBJ), 94.5 FM (KSOC), 105.7 FM (WMJI). His music has also been played on the Terry Bello-hosted Soul Lounge- a syndicated show, available in nearly 20 U.S. cities. He’s also been on XM Radio, Delta Airlines radio and various Internet radio websites. As a testament to his devotion to his fans, Nuwamba appeared as a special guest on 91.9 FM (WCLK) in Atlanta. He was featured in numerous notable publications including Vibe, Upscale, The Dallas Observer, The Urban Network, Billboard, Rolling Out, and he also covered his hometown’s Fort Worth Weekly. At home in Texas, he hit the ground running performing in every major city from Dallas and Fort Worth to Austin, Waco and Houston. He had a set at ClubOne-15 in downtown Austin as part of the SXSW Music Festival as well.
Nuwamba’s passion and drive to move beyond what’s expected has taken him far beyond the Texas border. He’s been onstage in LA and New York. He’s blessed the microphone from Baltimore and D.C. to Atlanta and has even gone overseas with his talents to Kaiserslautern, Germany. The venues that he’s performed in include Houston’s Kaveh Kanes Coffee House and the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. He exceeded listeners’ expectations in Dallas at Reciprocity, Sankofas, Phat Kats, Daiquiri Dump, Art Bar, Moon Bar, Hard Rock Café, and the Bali Club. He’d been performing at the Apache Café (formerly known as Ying Yang Café) in Atlanta since the start of his career with Griggs.
Never one to limit himself, Nuwamba moved beyond club performances. He worked the TCU Football Tailgate Party with his soul-filled vocals and he’s opened shows for George Clinton, Sleepy Brown and Bobby Blue Bland. Nuwamba also participated in a mass choir performance that featured Kelly Price at Dallas’s Morton H. Meyerson Martin Luther King Show.
After his album debut, Nuwamba took some time to re-evaluate his team and his career plan- the draining effects of the music industry warranted a change. During this hiatus, Nuwamba experimented. He dabbled in house music, even collaborating with some highly regarded house DJs in creating song remixes.

He came back to his music with a clear mind and a fresh perspective on what the follow-up project, Unusual Takeover, will finally sound like- a mix of soul and R&B- appealing to an even broader audience, without completely abandoning the genre that’s brought him thus far. With his honeyed voice and true-to-life lyrics, Nuwamba is planning on picking up just where he left off- ready and able to write and compose music that will move listeners to the core whether they’re listening over the airwaves or from a seat in front of the stage.

Tha General says, since being introduced to this great singer all i have to say if u love great soul music u need to check him out the proof is in the pudding enjoy

BABY TASH

Jamaican Female Entertainer, Baby Tash is one of the fresh new talents that is pushing dancehall into the 21st century. Smart. Talented. Bubbly. Athletic. Baby Tash projects the threat that she can derail anything. No matter the obstacle, the sexy ‘Dancehall Goddess’ will not be stopped. A graduate of the Jonathan Grant High School, where she was Deputy Head Girl, Prefect, Student Council President, Vice President of 4-H club and Secretary of Key Club, Tashon Williams — as she was christened — was born and raised in Spanish Town with her mom and two siblings.Baby Tash is an entertainment veteran. She has made a lasting impact on almost every major competition held in the performing arts — from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Festival, Tastee Talent Contest, Digicel Rising Stars to Dancing Dynamites. She was also crowned Miss Jonathan Grant "Brains and Beauty Pageant" and (DB&G) Annual Talent contest winner – just to name a few. Upon being awarded the "Most Talented’ in the Miss Sandals Pageant, the MC announced "This contestant deserves a recording contract"- in reference to Baby Tash. She had written a song about Sandals and gave an energetic and memorable performance, receiving thunderous cheers and screams from the audience. Then, it was exactly five months later, May 2008, that Baby Tash signalled that she was ready to place her hands firmly on the axle of her destiny and become a bonafide star. Baby Tash was catapulted into the spotlight when she emerged winner of a popular television talent show, Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition. It was the start of an exciting journey of exploration and discovery in the music industry. Baby Tash first took advantage of the rabid media attention she received during the competition. The humble young lady from Dallas Lane was now being featured in Buzz Magazine, every local newspaper and television entertainment shows. In the blink of an eye "Baby Tash" has become a household name to Jamaicans. She voiced her first single "Mix Up", produced by the experienced Cordell ‘Scatta’ Burrell. The video was directed by highly sought-after, award-winning director, Jay Will. It was nominated for the coveted Hype TV Video of the Year Award for 2008.
Since then, she has ignited stages across Jamaica with her spunky, high energy performances, doing memorable stints on such shows as Manchester Fiesta, GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza, Stone Love Anniversary, Teen Splash, Mavado’s Album Launch and Birthday Bash and Fully Loaded. She has been able to generate a large underground following.

Late 2009, Baby Tash was approached by Khool International Booking Agency and they decided to work as a team. She soon created waves with the saucy radio hit, "Facebook". The breakout smash became a big hit, early 2010, among teenyboppers who were getting hooked to the popular social networking site. "Facebook" began climbing charts in Canada and the Caribbean. Her video received tremendous rotation, and she landed on the RJR Cross Country Invasion tour. During this tour, she honed her performance skills, wowing audiences with her sassy dance moves and crystal clear delivery. She received great feedbacks on other singles such as "Nah Bleach" and "Nuh Diss From Nuh Bwoy". The Sagittarian, however, had to take a brief hiatus from the business to refocus her creative energies.
In 2011, re-energised, by a strong management team, Baby Tash began working with top flight producers including Handel Tucker, Kirk Bennett, Cordel 'Skatta' Burrell and Colin 'Bulby' York. Her new singles scorching the airwaves include "Summer Body" and "Can you Keep Up"
Baby Tash’s future looks quite promising and her sizzling singles are already generating major buzz in North America, Australia and Latin America, London and here is the contact details for Baby Tash

Benzly Hype

In life there are people who are born to be innovators and creators, people who seem to be genetically designed and programmed to seek out initiatives and generate life changing opportunities even in the midst of the most dire of situations.

Hemsley Ainsley Coleman Morris Jr. better known as Benzly Hype!!! is one such individual. Son of once popular Jamaican Musician and Balladeer Ainsley Morris he has definitely followed and out run his fathers foot steps.

He humbly embodies the sole of a creative genius, one who has masterfully crafted his talents as not only a hit producer, musician and performer but also as a screen writer / actor / TV program producer and entrepreneur.

The rough unforgiving streets of Kingston, Jamaica particularly the Red Hills Rd. area served as the playground responsible for shaping young Benzly Hype’s!!! future. Initially a student of the classical arts who has been playing instruments like the piano and guitar since age 4, Benzly became magnetized when he discovered the awe-inspiring power of dancehall music.

His thirst for musical happiness lead young Benzly on a journey through the gully’s and trenches of Kingston City, a journey that inevitably created the foundation he needed for the hype world of dancehall. Through his journey he formed alliances with La Benz sound system where he was an equipment crew member aka ‘box boy’ who later turned selector then DJ. This proved to be a launch pad for his performing career, as he soon became an opening act for Spragga Benz and various people of the Benzspeculous crew. However before becoming hugely popular young Benzly, began learning the art of sound recording at the coveted Celestial Sounds Recording Studio during his off time from school and La Benz. There he was given the opportunity to gain vital hands on experience which later resulted in him recording numerous audio sessions and writing songs for a variety of artistes such as Beenie Man, Merciless, Frisco Kid and Cecile just to name a few.

His hard work, patience, sacrifice and determination would eventually pay off in the late 90’s, that’s when 17 year old Benzly Hype!!! shot to stardom as a leading member of dancehall’s first ever lyrical quartet, Innocent Kru. Originally started as a group amongst friends they managed to top both local and international charts with hits like Impossible Train, Turn It Up, Not Guilty and Wogga Wogga. Together with Benzly Hype!!! Innocent Kru single handedly revolutionized the manner in which dancehall was being produced.

His enormous appetite for knowledge and success combined with his undying thirst for originality has helped to garner much respect from many industry legends, such as Sly Dunbar of the legendary musical duo Sly and Robbie, and dancehall beat masters Steelie & Clevie. With much tutelage from these icons, Benzly Hype!!! stands dominant in a class by himself.

So dominant is his force that he has arguably made one of the most successful crosses from music into acting ever seen in the history of Jamaican television. With the creation of ‘Me And Mi Kru’ a television comedy series for which he not only plays the lead but is also the creator, writer and producer has created shockwaves since it’s debut early 2009. At the end of it’s first season ‘Me And Mi Kru’ became the most anticipated TV program to hit Jamaica in 15 years. Inspired by the real life experiences of Benzly Hype!!! it is transmitted to over 2 million homes via local TV station CVM TV 3 times per week. The show is now going into its Third season and has transcended Jamaican borders to Africa and the rest of the Caribbean, he recently signed a syndication deal with the U.S via Comcast Network which boast over 10million viewers through out the Tristate area.

With a host of knowledge, a wealth of experience and a heart that refuses to stop Benzly Hype!!! continues his never ending fight of bringing good wholesome entertainment back to the lives of people while being a positive role model for his peers.

"I want the youths to have some hope, because really and truly options for the youths of Jamaica are limited. So if they observe me doing what I’m doing they could say to themselves, well if Hype!!! can do that then I should be able to do the same or greater. That’s what I thought when I was growing up and looking up to my father, we are roll models we can’t hide from it."

Benzly Hype!!! is always working and coming up with new innovative ways to entertain people, currently with various projects in the pipeline Benzly says he will continue to stay grounded and never stop pushing the envelope and redefining what is possible thus Making History!!!

    Julie Dexter

"..listening to Julie Dexter is like falling in love.."

"Sensational yet subtle. A singer to die for who creates an urgent need for superlatives yet to be invented."

Meet Julie Dexter, a world renowned, award winning, British vocalist considered by many to be one of the most influential female vocalists of our generation. Having shared the spotlight with a host of cutting-edge artists, including Mint Condition, Jill Scott, Bilal, Omar, Loose Ends, Rachelle Ferrell, Ledisi, Eric Roberson and Raheem DeVaughn to name a few, Julie not only holds up her own with them but has been praised and respected by them too.

Born and raised in Birmingham, England, this classically trained artist composes and arranges her own music. Influenced by legends such as Nancy Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, and Bob Marley, as well as popular icons Omar and Sade, Julie takes classic soul to the heart of Artistry

Fans and critics across the globe have followed her journey through the circles of Jazz, Broken-Beat, Bossa-Nova, Reggae, Afro-Beat and Soul. Her dynamic voice was first heard in 1994 on "The Jamaican Beat" Vol 1 with Jazz Jamaica then later in 1997 on Dune Records' release of J-Life, a European Jazz quintet formed by Gary Crosby and led by Jason Yarde. She later toured several continents with Jazz legend Courtney Pine as the lead vocalist for his ensemble.

It was in 1999 that Julie took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she now resides. She launched her own label, Ketch A Vibe Records and in 2000 released the critically acclaimed EP Peace of Mind, followed by Dexterity (2002) , and Conscious (2005). Moon Bossa, a collaboration with Khari Simmons was released in 2007 and her single "Ketch A Vibe" was featured in national radio ads for Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama.

From Jazz to World Music, Soul and beyond, Julie Dexter is one of an elite few whose talent can transcend genres. She makes it all work on her own terms, as an audaciously independent artist with an undeniable connection to her audience.

Her latest anticipated project with Chicago's own Producer/DJ Steve "Miggedy" Maestro entitled 'New Again" is due for release April 26th 2011. Don’t miss the experience of Julie Dexter. Be a part of a tradition of great music. In the words of her smash single 'Ketch A Vibe', ‘Don’t let it pass you by...Ketch [Julie Dexter’s] Vibe’...
